Intelligence Briefing

He has a deep knowledge of franchises like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel, and DC Comics, along with a passion for indie and horror titles.

An expert on obscure productions from the ’80s and ’90s, John is known for his encyclopedic recall of cult classics like Beetleborgs. Charlie's Angels is taking over the premium video-on-demand charts following a surprising reunion. It's also ahead of the next entry in the long-running franchise.

Per FlixPatrol, the original Charlie's Angels has officially taken the number four spot on the list of the top series currently available via the Apple TV Store in the United States. While the list is still dominated by Firefly in the number one spot, Charlie's Angels has had no problem surpassing the likes of Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage and Mad Men after breaking into the charts in eleventh place on Apr. 9, and making its way to No.

4. The crime drama series' return to the charts isn't coincidental. The lead stars, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd, have just reunited for a special occasion: the show's 50th anniversary.

The reunion happened on Apr. 6 at PaleyFest, where they reflected on the show's legacy, as well as their enduring friendship. What Is Charlie's Angels All About?

Created by Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts, Charlie's Angels premiered on ABC in 1976 and introduced audiences to the eponymous team of femme fatales consisting of Kate Jackson's Sabrina Duncan, Jaclyn Smith's Kelly Garrett, and Farrah Fawcett's Jill Munroe. After graduating from the police academy with stellar records, only to be sidelined by the LAPD, the three are enlisted to serve as private investigators for the Charles Townsend Agency. Charlie's Angels was a massive hit upon its release, garnering numerous major industry award nominations and massive viewership numbers amidst decidedly divisive reviews.

Despite any and all detractors, Charlie's Angels established itself as a pillar of pop culture in the '70s and '80s, and has continued to return in various forms in the decades since. In 2000, the first Charlie's Angels feature film was released, with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore leading the charge as the latest generation of Angels. Charlie's Angels dominated the box office upon its release, securing the production of a sequel in the form of 2003's Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.

In 2019, the feature film franchise was revisited with a new Charlie's Angels starring Kristen Stewart, Ella Balinska, and Naomi Scott, though it failed to be the same kind of breakout success as its predecessors. What's Next for the Charlie's Angels Franchise? Between the lackluster 2019 film and the disastrous 2011 TV series, fans of Charlie's Angels have been eagerly awaiting a proper return to form for the franchise for quite some time.

And, while the original cast recently reunited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Charlie's Angels, it doesn't seem like another take on the series will be happening any time soon, even if another film is already on the way. In February, it was reported that Sony is officially developing a new Charlie's Angels movie. The new Charlie's Angels will be written by Crazy Rich Asians screenwriter Peter Chiarelli, who also wrote 2009's The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

As of the time of writing, there is no word regarding who will be directing the next Charlie's Angels, nor who Sony might be eyeing to star in the film. Charlie's Angels is currently available via PVOD on the Apple TV Store. Release Date 1976 - 1981-00-00 Network ABC Showrunner Ivan Goff, Ben Roberts Farrah Fawcett Kate Jackson Jaclyn Smith John Forsythe Directors Dennis Donnelly, Allen Baron, Don Chaffey Writers Ivan Goff, Ben Roberts, Edward J.
